Elon Musk is said to be considering shipping one of Twitter’s most essential features. Earlier this month, Elon Musk made the move to buy Twitter. Although this deal has yet to be finalized, Musk has ideas on how to use the company. The Tesla CEO has been vocal about his desire to create a platform that allows more ways for “freedom of speech,” which essentially means that it will ease restrictions on the types of content one can post on the social media site. Moreover, there are still many questions about what his long-term plans for Twitter are, but a new report may give an idea of that.
According to ReutersWhile trying to secure funds for the deal, Musk told the banks that he was considering plans to charge users for tweeting verified users and including tweets (as often happens in articles). Of course, people can only screenshot these tweets, which makes them redundant. Musk is also said to be planning to replace Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal with an unnamed person if the purchase takes place as he can also make changes to Twitter’s subscription service, Twitter Blue. Since Musk has no authority in the company yet, nothing is definitive and should not be considered a sure thing.
However, many have raised concerns about how Musk might change the platform. By monetizing some of the apps’ core features, it can set a bad precedent. Although the report states that this will only apply when users quote verified users, it does raise the question of why. It seems odd to monetize, especially with such an easy solution, but we’ll likely find out more about his plans if and when Musk takes full control of Twitter. Musk had already joked about wanting to buy other companies like Coca-Cola after his Twitter acquisition, but he hasn’t made any official offers for anything else at the moment.
